The Eye

Eye of Horus Egyptian mythology patterns and design black and white pen art

The piece that really started my interest in conveying symbolism, especially through mythology. The above being centred on Egyptian mythology.

Valknut

Odin symbol viking patterns pen art

A collage of various symbols inspired by Norse design. Behind the central valknut symbol is a sigil that is commonly misapplied to Norse mythology (the Vegvisir, sometimes referred to as the "Viking compass"). I used runes from Elder Futhark without knowing what they meant (if anything) unlike my later work "Runestone of Memory".

Fuji

Stylised Wolf

Black and white pen art of sylised pattern design wolf face

An overall design inspired by Japanese scenery and patterns. Symbols were included with intent, however, the exact details of these are forgotten.

Simple drawing of a wolf made up of different patterns.

The Antidote

Black and white pen art of tiger with waves and flowers and Japanese style border design and patterns

Side profile drawing of a tiger surrounded by Japanese styled borders, patterns, and design elements.

Confront

Black and white pen art drawing of Tiger face with detailed patterns and border designs

Drawn as a companion of "The Antidote" (above). This was intended to be the front view of the tiger, again including some Japanese border styles as well as some original design elements.

The World Tree

World tree and celtic norse germanic patterns and designs in black and white pen art

My first take on the "World Tree" idea from Norse/Germanic/Celtic mythology. Again, misusing the Vegvisir sigil. This mostly consists of original doodles and less use of symbols with intentional meaning.

Sol

Aztec calendar sundial ib black and white pen art with patterns and designs

A drawing inspired by the famous Aztec calendar stone found in Mexico City.

Skoll and Hati

Black and white pen art of stylised raven over norse wolves skoll and hati with norse viking patterns and celtic knot designs

A stylised sketch of a raven over two inward facing wolves. Designs and patterns of mainly a Celtic style. The focus here (as well as most pieces from this time) was more on the aesthetic of the patterns rather than the meaning of symbols.

Barn Owl

Stylised pen art drawing of barn owl with detailed patterns and designs

Drawing of a barn owl with original doodles for patterns and borders.
